Chief Executive Officer Urbanice Malaysia
Norliza Hashim is the Chief Executive of Urbanice Malaysia, a Centre of Excellence for Community Well-being and Urban Sustainability, under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia; where she leads a team that focus on the implementation of sustainable urbanisation policies in cities and regions through shared knowledge platforms, innovative urban solutions, development research and collaborative partnership.
She led the Local Secretariat for World Urban Forum 9 hosted by Malaysia in 2018. WUF 9 is the world’s premier forum addressing various urban challenges where her key tasks were to work alongside UN-Habitat to address the implementation of the New Urban Agenda that emphasise on Cities for All to ensure inclusivity and sustainability of our cities in light of rapid urbanisation faced today.
Norliza has been appointed as Adjunct Professor to the Kuliyah of Architecture and Environmental Design of International Islamic University of Malaysia, where her area of focus is on the sustainable urban development agenda and advancement of urban planning in Malaysia.
Norliza is a professional Town Planner and is the founder of AJM Planning and Urban Design Group Sdn Bhd, and her experience covers a wide spectrum of the planning discipline and has developed plans and blueprints that has contributed towards Malaysia’s nation building. She had led several teams of experts to develop the Low Carbon Cities Assessment Framework and is also the Director for Malaysian Institute of Planner’s Low Carbon Cities and Sustainability Centre.
Norliza sits on the Leadership Council for Sustainable Development Solutions Network Malaysia and several organisation related to sustainability as her passion lies in promoting the sustainability agenda and in providing innovative solutions that contributes towards better quality of life and built environment for cities and nations.
She actively participates in community based programmes and also sits in various technical working groups that focus on issues relating to sustainable planning and development. Norliza is also a prolific speaker and has presented at various local and international conferences on the many areas of urban planning and sustainability.
