Supt Raja Sakaran Subramaniam has been in the Royal Malaysia Police Force for the last 35 years. He presently serves as the Principal Assistant Director of Investigation and Legal of Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department of Bukit Aman, Royal Malaysia Police. During his tenure in the Traffic Branch of Kuala Lumpur Contingent, he was in charge of road traffic control. Prior to that, he has also served as a Senior Investigation Officer in the Crime Branch and as a Legal Officer in the Commercial Crime Branch.

Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, PLUS Malaysia Berhad

Sam is a driven C-Level Business Technology Leader with vast international experience in driving innovative growth across a diverse range of industries including transportation, utilities, logistics, telecommunications and government. His work in Australia and Malaysia gained recognition with innovation awards of APICTA and iAwards. Ar Chan graduated with a B Arch (Hons) and M Arch (Distinction) from Victoria University of Wellington New Zealand. He has more than 30 years working experience as a Professional Architect and is founder of his firm Arkitek Daya Seni Sdn Bhd. As principal architect of ADS he has completed high rise condos, hotels, shopping malls and housing projects in Malaysia, China, Vietnam and Indonesia. He was PAM President for 2013-2015. He has also been appointed as Board Member of the Board of Architects Malaysia 2011-2021. Ar Chan is the President of Malaysia GBC (2018-2020).

Project Director for Edmonton’s Valley Line, City of Edmonton, Canada

Brad Smid, P.Eng, has been shaping and delivering Light Rail Transit infrastructure in Edmonton for the past fifteen years. In that time, Brad has helped to deliver over 75% of Edmonton’s current and under construction LRT network – and in doing so has helped to change the face of Edmonton. Brad is the Project Director for the Valley Line LRT; a truly transformative project of the 27 km urban-style, low-floor LRT system.

TOM SCHENK Jr

Former Chief Data Officer, City of Chicago, United States of America

Tom Schenk Jr. is a researcher and author on applying technology, data, and analytics to make better decisions. He formerly was the Chief Data Officer for the City of Chicago. He’s authored several publications, including a book on data visualization, book chapters on education research, and academic articles on a variety of subjects. He’s also the cofounder of the Civic Analytics Network at Harvard University. His work has been featured in The Economist and Wall Street Journal while he’s been featured in television programs on PBS NewsHour and National Geographic Channel.

Dr. Jonathan Reichental is a multiple-award-winning technology and business leader whose career has spanned both the private and public sectors. He’s been a senior software engineering manager, a director of technology innovation, and has served as chief information officer at both O’Reilly Media and the City of Palo Alto, California. He also creates online education for LinkedIn Learning and recently published Smart Cities for Dummies.

KELLY JIN

Chief Analytics Officer, City of New York, United States of America

Kelly Jin is the Chief Analytics Officer for the City of New York and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics. She brings diverse analytics experience in both the public service and the private sector to the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics to deliver insights for a more equitable and efficient city. Prior to the Chief Analytics Officer role, she worked in White House Office of Science and Technology Policy during President Obama’s Administration as a policy advisor to the U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Chief Data Officer. Kelly also built and co-led the City of Boston’s analytics team. Her earlier career included advisory roles in the White House Domestic Policy Council, U.S. General Services Administration, etc.

JEANNE HOLM

Chief Data Officer, City of Los Angeles, United States of America

Jeanne is the Chief Data Officer and Senior Technology Advisor to the Mayor at the City of Los Angeles. She founded the Data Science Federation; partnering universities and cities to create innovative solutions. She was formerly the Evangelist for open data for the White House under President Obama, the leader for Africa open data for the World Bank, and the Chief Knowledge Architect at NASA. She is also an advisor to the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Rachel has 21 years of transportation experience, skills and expertise developed from private and public sector roles and projects all around the world. She is the author of Decongestion – 7 steps for mayors to cut traffic congestion without the expense of new roads or annoyed residents. She has spoken in London’s Palace of Westminster’s House of Lords about the future of urban transport planning and was one of the Curators of the BMW Guggenheim Lab in New York, Berlin and Mumbai between 2011 and 2014 creating ‘Dynamic Connections’ the world’s first crowd-solving bicycle map. Piarapakaran S. is the president of Association of Water and Energy Research Malaysia (AWER). He had many of his works established and being successfully implemented over the years as part of policies and as actual projects in Malaysia. He is still strongly pursuing his water and energy agenda to create sustainable implementation models for water and energy sectors in Malaysia to ensure water and energy security can be adopted regionally and worldwide. He is an engineer by qualification.

SYED MALEK FAISAL SYED MOHAMAD

New Energy’s Head of Business Development, Gas & New Energy, PETRONAS, Malaysia

Syed Malek joined PETRONAS in July 2018 in which he was part of the pioneer team in setting up the New Energy business in PETRONAS Corporate Strategy. He is currently the Head of Business Development of PETRONAS New Energy and is responsible to formulate and lead the business development for clean energy projects including solar, wind, hybrid and energy solutions projects in Malaysia and International to achieve New Energy growth target. Previously, Syed Malek served as the Chief Executive Officer for COMOS, a company established to spearhead electric mobility in Malaysia. Prior to that, he spent 17 years at PROTON in various capacities and was instrumental in the development of various PROTON engines and vehicle models.

ZULKIFLEE UMAR

Deputy Director, Energy Efficiency & Conservation Unit, Energy Commission, Malaysia

Zulkiflee Umar is the Deputy Director of Energy Efficiency & Conservation from the Department of Industry Operation of Energy Commission Malaysia. He began his career with Energy Commission Malaysia in 2005 in the Legal Department performing enforcement tasks under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and Gas Supply Act 1993. He later shifted to the Department of Gas Development and Regulation of Energy Commission Malaysia in 2008 performing tasks related to the safety of gas installations. Appointed as the Head of Demand Side Management Unit in 2012 now known as Energy Efficiency & Conservation Unit, his expertises covers the areas of energy efficiencies.

PASCAL LABOUZE

Pascal Labouze is the Executive Director of Operational Systems in Transport for NSW, where he leads the vision to build more integrated systems to enable a more integrated transport network. He is responsible for the definition, delivery and management of multi-modal technology projects that enable efficient and safe operations of the roads, railway, light rail and ferries. For more than 25 years, Pascal Labouze has held various transport industry roles designing, developing and deploying complex systems. He started his career delivering Train Control Systems in Egypt, then went on to hold various positions with Thales in France where he was ultimately responsible for the worldwide delivery of Smartcard Fare Collection Systems.

HASNIZA MOHAMED

Director of Digital & Incubation, UEM Sunrise, Malaysia

Hasniza Mohamed has over 12 years of professional experience in digital, customer experience and transformation. She leads the Digital Transformation Agenda in UEM Sunrise and is responsible for crafting and executing the ‘go digital’ implementation for both digitisation & digitalisation. She is also active in collaborating with few start-ups and leading the 1st incubator team in UEM Sunrise. Among her key projects are “Hub” (customer care app for UEMS Tresorian/ loyal customers) and few collaborations with start-ups such as Smart Living & Smart Parking. She is now also leading the new digital venture for UEM Sunrise called Rise Digital. Prior to her current role, Hasniza was a General Manager for Group Digital Center of Telekom Malaysia; pioneering the digital transformation agenda towards making Telekom Malaysia a digitally-focused Company.

Paul Comfort is the author of the Amazon #1 Best Selling Book, The Future of Public Transportation and host of the world’s top public transportation CEO podcast, Transit Unplugged – heard in 99 countries. He serves as Vice President of Business Development for the Trapeze Group and is Executive Director of the North American Transit Alliance. Comfort is a long time industry veteran and the former CEO of one of America’s top transit systems, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) in Baltimore. Ar Wan Muhd Hisham was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Selangor Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd (SIC) in December 2018. He was previously the Chief of Architect at PKNS and had over 18 years of experience in the architectural field. PKNS entrusted Hisham to oversee the designing and eventually international bodies such as the Silver Award in the office category by FIABCI International, Green Building by ASEAN Centre for Energy, Green Building and Energy Efficient Design awards by MESTECC and CityScape Awards for Emerging Markets, among others. SIC now has become a well-established real estate developer and financial services provider embarking in creating Malaysia’s first Smart City dubbed the Selangor Cyber Valley (SCV).

Captain Chester Voo carries with him over 27 years of experience in the aviation industry. He started his commercial flying career with Malaysia Airlines in 1993 as a cadet pilot. Nizmar bin Mohd. Nazar is the Chief Information Officer at Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) with years of experience in Information Technology & Automotive industry. He is involved in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for mobility as a service (MaaS) development under automated drive, telematics implementation, simulation & augmented reality (AR) integration. He leads on the services and new mobility functions making transport and travelling safer, green, more efficient which includes applications that use data from other vehicles, from the infrastructure or from a back end (cloud) to provide information about dangers and obstacles on the road, as well as entirely novel functions in the fields of journey, fleet and traffic management.

Carron Lee is the Council Member of Malaysia Green Building Council for the year 2020 – 2021 and co-chair for Academic & Research in the organization. She is an entomologist by profession and has been in the pest management industry for 18 years. She graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia, majoring in Entomology (Applied Biology). She is equipped with pest management knowledge from technical to business management. Her strength is in doing field data analysis, inspection, auditing and consulting in her respective field. She is passionate in the green building sector and has a good combination of exploration in problem solving for various industries and sectors such as commercial buildings.

Alex Chi has a total of 19 years of professional experience in Information Technology with a wide exposure in multinational corporation environment with multiple business engagements across the industries. Ar Halim Suhor is an award winning architect both for local and international projects. He worked with several established architect firms before moving to set up his own practice; Halim Suhor Architect in 2007. He is also on the board of directors at Pusat Binaan Sdn Bhd (PBSB) Business ARM & the wholly owned subsidiary of PAM (2015-2020). He is currently also the council member of Malaysia Green Building Council (MGBC) (2020 – 2021).

Tan Lee Cheong (Dale) has more than 15 years of experience in Information Engineering and Technology. Upon graduating, Tan Lee Cheong has worked with a few organizations including Diversified Gateway Berhad, Philips, Honeywell, NTT MSC and Hikvision. His field of expertise includes designing and implementing IT network infrastructure, automation and control solutions. He is also a preferred advisory for consultancy to end users and provides training to consultants regarding video surveillance systems and network infrastructure.

In 2014, Girish signed a partnership alliance with EC Harris LLP, a global built assets consultancy and was hired by the UK’s 100-year-old firm to lead their strategy and transformation division in Malaysia supporting projects in Asia. With close to 30 years of extensive business leadership experience across countries in Asia Pacific, Girish’s involvement in nation-building projects covers various industries including real estate & smart cities.

MICHELLE FITZGERALD

Chief Digital Officer, City of Melbourne, Australia

Michelle Fitzgerald is the Director of the Technical & Digital Innovation Branch at the City of Melbourne, and is the city’s first Chief Digital Officer. As our cities face digital disruption, Michelle and her team are responsible for trialling and implementing digital and data tools that will help prepare Melbourne for population changes and help create the jobs and startups of the future. Melbourne was recently rated number 8 ‘smart city government’ in the world.

MOHD SHAHRIM MOHD TAMRIN

Board Member of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS); Freelance Journalist & Editor

Shahrim has nearly 15 years’ experience in Journalism and Communications. He was a Panel Member of the Forum Discussion at Malaysia’s National Road Safety Council (MKJR) in conjunction with MKJR’s Annual General Meeting 2018. He sits on the Board of Directors of Malaysia Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). In November 2016, he received a special award from ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) for his wide range coverage of road safety efforts and issues in SouthEast Asia. In August 2018, Shahrim was appointed by the Minister of Transport Malaysia monitoring the implementation of the previous panel 51 points and suggesting additional recommendations to improve the safety aspects of public transportation and commercial vehicles operation.

DATO’ MOHAMAD MADANI BIN SAHARI

Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii)

Dato’ Madani Sahari is the CEO of the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), previously known as the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI). MARii is the focal point, coordinating centre and think tank towards enhancing the competitiveness of the automotive industry and overall mobility, through the adoption of Robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT), under the custodian of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). He has played an active role in shaping the landscape of the automotive industry through his involvement in the formulation of the National Automotive Policy and under his leadership, MARii has expanded its scope to cater for the ever increasing demands for Robotics and IoT adoption in Malaysia.

Dato’ Madani graduated from the University of Lorraine (formerly Nancy-Université), France, with a degree in Industrial Technology and a Masters in Quality Engineering, in addition to being a Certified Quality Engineer. Dato’ Madani carries with him 25 years as an executive manager with national and international automotive manufacturers in the areas of strategic collaboration, project development and manufacturing.

SUPT. GAN CHI PHO

Chief Assistant Director of Traffic Control, Department of Investigation and Traffic Enforcement, Malaysia

Superintendent Gan Chip Pho has been in the police force for 36 years. He currently holds the position of Chief Assistant Director of Traffic Control in the Department of Investigation and Traffic Enforcement in Bukit Aman. Previously, he was stationed under the Department of Criminal Investigation in 2 districts for a total of 12 years – 5 years in IPD Segamat and 7 years in IPD Melaka Central in. Currently he is attached with the traffic unit in Bukit Aman for the past 6 years. He obtained his Diploma in Public Law from University Malaya, Malaysia and also has a Masters in Security and Safety from Cambridge International University, Delaware, United States.

Mr. Chua has almost 38 years of experience in the Consultancy, Project Management and Construction Industries. He is a professional Engineer and Chartered Engineer who has vast experience in Expressway, Marine, Golf Resorts, Mass Rapid Transit and Coastal and River Engineering Works. Mr. Chua was the Senior Project Director of River of Life (ROL) projects in Kuala Lumpur, one of the NINE entry-point projects (EPPs) under the Economic Transformation Program (ETP). He was also the Project Director for DUKE Phase 1 (completed), Phase 2 (Construction) and Phase 3 (Under Design). Mr. Chua has co-authored the Green Expressways Report with Prof Movanda Felix, Monash University, Australia. In addition to that, he also has authored papers on “Design of Sg Layang Estuary Dyke” at ASPC-IWSA Conference; and Chief Editor of the book: “DUKE – KL CONNECTOR” DUKE Phase 1: Nominated for “Excellent Award” for Innovative Design and Excellent Achievement for 2010 REAM’s Annual Road Conference. His hobbies include aerial photography, Tai Chi and Qigong – Quarter Master.

Theodore is a holder of a Master’s degree in Industrial Ecology from the Technical University of Delft, Netherlands. Driven by his strong connection with the principles of Sustainability and their implementation in the built environment he joined NEAPOLI as the Head Research & Building Physics Department. He is in charge of developing and implementing performance assessment frameworks and simulation tools for the built environment, focusing on energy optimization, outdoor and indoor thermal comfort, natural and artificial lighting, wind assessment and micro-climate optimization. His industrial experience involves Government-led research projects, formed to assess Biofuel production capabilities, opportunities, and barriers in Malaysia, using the Life Cycle Analysis framework.

Peter J Edwards, is the Director of Engineering for Scomi Engineering Bhd (SEB). He is in charge of all engineering matters of the SEB group, in all its businesses. Peter is a chartered engineer with more than 23 years of Mass Rapid Transit railway systems engineering and project management experience, with an emphasis on rolling stock engineering and operations and maintenance. Experienced in all phases of projects, and in different projects types including PPP contracts, Peter has worked on projects involving all Urban vehicle types; Tram, BRT, LRT, Monorail, APM and Metro. He has also performed in client, contractor and consultant roles working on urban rail projects in the following cities: Singapore, London, Hong Kong, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paolo, Manchester and San Francisco. He graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Hons) in 1990 and is a member of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), UK. He has also been the Honorary Secretary of IMechE Singapore Branch from 2011 – 2012.

Dr Yeang’s early education was at Cheltenham Boys College in England. His architectural education was at AA School in London followed by a doctorate from Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge. His PhD dissertation in Cambridge on ecological design and planning has been the fundamental basis upon which his subsequent R&D and design work particularly in the field designing intensive urban buildings and tall buildings. He studied ecological land use planning at the Development of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Ken Yeang International is a subsidiary of T. R. Hamzah & Yeang Sdn Bhd. Which was formed with his colleague, Tengku Robert Hamzah in 1076, now with offices in Kuala Lumpur, London, Singapore, Australia and China. Dr. Yeang has authored several authorities books and article on skyscrapers design and on ecological design. Dr Yeang is Past President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects, a post he also held between 1983 to 1986. From 1986 to 1988, he was elected Chairman of ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council Asia) and was on the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Council from 1996 to 1997. Dr Yeang is currently the Professor in Architecture (Graham Wlllis Chair) at the University of Sheffield.

Boyd is also a trainer on public awareness and involvement specializing on charrettes and Focus Group Discussions. Main deliverables include the development of the Low Carbon Society Blueprint for Iskandar Malaysia, Environmental Planning Blueprint, Shoreline Management Plan, Planning & Design Guidelines for Commercial and Industrial Buildings, Chief Editor of the Low Carbon Society Blueprint Implementation Booklet “Actions for A Low Carbon Future”, and co-author of various publications including The Economics of Low Carbon Cities: A Mini Stern report. Boyd wrote the “Charrette and Other Techniques” manual for JPBD; the 11 Awareness-Raising & Public Participation Manual for Sabah and the Town Centre Economic Health-Checks for Seven Oaks, UK. Graduated from Southbank University, London, in Town Planning Studies. Former Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (UK) and the Urban Design Group (UK); former Vice-Chair of the Malaysia Institute of Planners (Sabah).

Soon Goo has been with KEITI since 2009. His main research field includes Research of Life Cycle Assessment, Verification of Environmental Technology / Certification Eco-products, research water pollution, condition and analyze data set of water samples, study and analyse a report recent trend of environmental technology such as water purification and wastewater treatment technology, wastewater reuse system, rain water management and so on. He also manages the advisory committee (related professors and expert groups) for new environment technology or environmental regulations and so on. Prior to KEITI, Soon Goo was with the Korea Eco-Product Institution in which he was involved with the eco-label certification as well as the carbon foot print.

Over 25 years of diversified, both industry and government experience in Policy, Strategic, Sectoral Development and Mission Driven High Impact Projects related to Infrastructure, Buildings, Science, Technology and Innovation. Nik is currently the Vice President of Special Projects of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). As the Program Director, he has led the implementation of several mission oriented national initiatives and projects namely the National Technology Foresight Project, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategic Plan and Innovation SME Certification Program (1-InnoCERT). He is currently leading the National Smart Communities Program with the objective to accelerate the greening of cities as engine for Industry Driven Economic Growth through Investment, Jobs and Innovation. This program focuses on industry driven, project based, partnership centric and facilitated by government.

Dr Mazlan is the CEO of RedTone IOT Sdn Bhd that provides Smart City Solutions. He has more than 30 years of experience and accomplishments in a senior management capacity primarily accountable R&D, Product Development Innovations & Solutions, Technology Management, Network Operations and Academia. Before joining REDTone, he spent 8 years in MIMOS Berhad as the Senior Director Wireless Communications Cluster where is responsible to lead, strategies and manage the Applied R&D activities in Wireless Communications technology. He also spent 13 years in CELCOM handling many senior management positions (including R&D, Billing Operations, Technology & Technical Management, Network Administration & Management, Mobile Data, Integrated Business Solutions and Mobility Solutions). Prior to CELCOM, he spent 10 years as a lecturer and Assoc. Professor at University Teknologi Malaysia. Dr. Mazlan is a frequent speaker in many major & established ICT conferences locally and globally. He has served as MOSTI’s Technofund and Science Fund (ICT Cluster) Technical & Commercial Evaluation Committee, Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) for several local universities. Currently he is also an Adjunt Professor for UTHM. Dr Mazlan graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a BEE (1984), University of Essex (UK) with MSc. Currently he helms the hybrid architectural design firm [SA] 2 or Sarly Adre Sarkum Architecture Sdn Bhd which combines cutting edge architectural design solutions with extensive researched based explorative approach to solve challenging integrated design problems. He is currently the President of the Malaysian Green Building Confederation which is Malaysia’s Green Building Council under the auspices of the World Green Building Council. He is also currently elected council member of Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (The Malaysian Institute of Architects). He is currently active and involved in promoting sustainability and design.

Founder of Eco-Warrior, International Trainer, Ecopreneur, Green Activist, and Professional Speaker on Environmental Management Sustainability for the last 19 years in 40 countries; currently based in Philippines and Malaysia for the past 10 years. Matthias originates from a small German village surrounded by the forest and from a young age, has been a passionate advocate of green living. His core passion and lifetime’s mission is dedicated to Mother Nature and preserving the planet’s natural environment by both ‘Environmental Management and Corporate Social Responsibility’. He initiated the Negawatt revolution Energy Campaign and Facebook Group eco Warriors in Malaysia, two community movements focused on taking positive action to combat climate change and reduce your household energy by 10%. He is co-founder of Maleki Gmbh, a construction material research and development business in Germany that specializes in low carbon footprint, high performance building material and also Board of Director for a U.S based solar cell research, technology and development business in Malaysia.

Mr. Tadahiro Kasuya is currently the Vice Director of the Model Environment City Divison in the Department of Policy Planning for the City of Toyota since April 2005. In this role, he spearheads the model district “Toyota Ecofultown” where we compactly provide easy-to-understand information about Toyota City’s ecology-minded efforts including the results of the Toyota City Low-Carbon Society Verification Project and welcome visitors from over 80 different countries and regions of the world, including VIPs such as public ministers. He is also closely engaged in the energy policy management drive for a thriving low-carbon society. He began his career in the City of Toyota in 1996 and has been working in a managing and coordinating capacity in the Secretariat to the Council, Community support project, Human Resources, etc.

Vladimir Bataev is a product portfolio manager at Esperantoxl, a Dutch integrator & solution provider for transport, logistics & construction. At Esperantoxl, he is responsible for smart city solution research & development, and has worked with municipalities, architecture & construction firms in Amsterdam, Helsinki, London & Turin on multiple innovation projects. His current project is to drastically reduce energy consumption of residential buildings, further promote electric vehicles usage and re-purpose existing urban infrastructure for smarter use. This project will tackle introductions of smart grids, first vehicle-to-grid pilots, an open source smart grid platform as well as other innovations, while ensuring tight integration of all technologies and interventions and a strong focus on citizens. He is a Thinking City 2014 summer school alumni.

Ng Swee Meng is the software developer/sysadmin for Sinar Project. The Sinar Project is an initiative using open technology and applications to systematically make important information public and more accessible to the Malaysia people. It aims to improve governance and encourage greater citizen involvement the public affairs of the nation.

Dr Justin Dauwels is an associate Professor with School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He serves as Deputy Director of the ST Engineering – NTU corporate lab, which comprises 100+ PhD students, research staff and engineers, developing novel autonomous systems for airport operations and transportation. He is also involved as project PI in the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research of Autonomous Vehicles – NTU (CETRAN), which will lead the development of testing requirements for such vehicles, and was launched by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and JTC, in partnership with NTU. Moreover, he serves as project PI in the BMW-NTU lab on Future Mobility and the NXP-NTU lab on vehicle-to-vehicle communications.

Rahul is an award winning urban planner with more than fifteen years of in-depth consulting experience in master planning and urban design, architecture, and landscape architecture. The geographic footprint of his projects has spanned across USA, India, China, Japan, Malaysia and multiple countries in South East Asia. His understanding and application of western urban planning principles coupled with his knowledge of eastern culture has allowed him to bridge the vital gaps of his clients leading to the success on their projects.

Dr. Thomas Tang has been in the sustainability practice sector for over 20 years. He has worked on urban city projects covering aspects of planning, technical assessments and stakeholder engagement. Currently, Dr Thomas leads a team researching, test-bedding, and deploying commercialized products, services processes and technologies in a living lab in the areas of sustainability within the context of a smart city. In 2012, he co-authored “Global Best Practices in Sustainable Urban Development”, a review of over fifty cities.

Dr. Renard is currently attached to the Group Sustainability division at Sime Darby Berhad, a multinational conglomerate based in Malaysia. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral teaching fellow and a researcher at the Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) where he was actively involved in research relating to the sustainable construction of buildings/ infrastructure, integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into mainstream capital markets and sustainability/ integrated reporting. Renard serves as an industry working group member with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for the infrastructure stream and is a Stakeholder Council member for the Global Infrastructure Basel (GIB) Foundation.

Dr Mazlan, is a Malaysian thought leader and pioneer in smart cities. Prior to being the CEO of Redtone IOT which is recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the “Malaysia Innovative Smart City Solution Provider of the Year” he was in the industry for 30 years working for one of the largest telco’s in Malaysia and a national R&D centre for Malaysia where he lead the R&D for Applied Wireless Communications Technology.

Dr Nakmoon Sung is a senior research fellow, in charge of the department of comprehensive transport research in the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI) which is supervised under the Prime Minister Office. He has led more than 50 transport projects since he joined KOTI in 1983; in addition, he has experience of working as a senior transport specialist in the World Bank (Washington D.C.) for 2 years and participating in OECD joint researches for 3 years.

Eli has 18 years of experience in strategy and master planning; sustainability, resilience, and cities and policy and research. He has carried out urban development and infrastructure work in Asia, Europe the Middle East, Africa and Latin America for clients across the public, private and third sectors. Projects and initiatives Eli has recently led include master plans and strategic plans for new development and regeneration, large-scale urbanisation, reclamation projects, mixed-use industry-led sites, tourism and leisure strategy and developments and transport-oriented development, across Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Ms Lin is currently the Assistant Director General of Research Development and Evaluation Commission, her department is tasked with assisting New Taipei to shine as a world-class metropolis. Prior to her role as the Assistant Director-General of Research, Developement and Evaluation Commission she was the Acting Director-General of the Information Management Centre. In 2014, she also won the Model Citizen Award.

Priscilla Baek is the policy lead for Asia at Uber, a smartphone app that is transforming the way cities move. In her role, she leads government and regulatory affairs, stakeholder management and third party partnership across the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to Uber she led a national campaign for international trade at the US Chamber of Commerce, where she successfully advocated for the passage of the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement in the US Congress. She was also a key advisor to leadership at the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Financial Leadership, an agency created through the Dodd-Frank Act to support financial regulators in preventing another financial crisis.

Dr Fahmi was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at the Office of the Selangor Economic Advisor in 2014, where he assisted state policy development and designed developmental programs for implementation under Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI). He is currently also the Deputy Program Director for the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit, responsible for developing initiatives and strategies to realise the Smart Selangor Programme for the Selangor Government.

En Hairi is currently the Honorary Secretary General in the Malaysia Water Association (MWA), it is a platform for efforts towards bringing about enhancement of the knowledge and skills of its members and promote awareness of water issues among the public. He is an industry veteran with numerous years of experience.

Anthony call himself a “practical environmentalist”. He believes in the importance of volition or “personal political will” in choosing to make a change in lifestyle so as to have a positive impact on the environment. Currently, Mr Anthony’s responsibilities include: Alternate Representative to the National Steering Committee on Climate Change; NGO Representative, Petaling Jaya Green City Task Force; and Project Coordinator, PJ-EcoMobility Project.

Mohd. Radhi Cheah is a season industry veteran with numerous years of experience under his belt. On top of being a council member of the Waste Innovation Council, he also acts as the honorary secretary to the Waste Management Association in Malaysia. On top of that, Mohd Radhi Cheah is also the CEO of several companies providing waste management services and consultancy.

Tony Wong is the Chief Executive of the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities, a $120million research Centre based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Singapore. Tony is internationally recognised for his research and practice in sustainable urban water management and water sensitive urban design.

Khalid Bahsoon is the Chief Executive Officer of Cenviro Sdn Bhd and has been appointed to the Board of Cenviro Group of Companies. He previously served as the Group CEO for Core Competencies Sdn Bhd, a corporation that is involved in waste to energy projects in Malaysia.

Dr Salmah Zakaria is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and is the current chair of ASM Water Committee. She also Chairs the ASM Water Committee Task Force on Climate Change and Adaptation. Her main interests are IWRM, Water & Green growth, Water-Food-Energy Nexus, Urban Water and Climate Change Adaptation. She was a senior water expert, with the United Nation Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Bangkok, (2009 to 2015). In ESCAP, she served as the alternate focal point to UN-Water as well as APWF Governing Council, serving on various task forces and committees.

Alissa Raj is a senior consultant in IEN Consultants which is one of the pioneering green building consultancies in the South East Asian region with a 15 years track record. Key project references include the ST Diamond Building (2012 ASEAN Energy Award Winner) and the GEO Building designed to be a zero energy office building. Other projects include the KLIA2 airport terminal and KL Eco City, as well as energy efficiency retrofit work.

Dr Renato, serves as an invaluable advisor to multiple international organisation and governments in the areas of smart cities. He’s a globally recognized smart cities thought leader who’s spoken extensively at the world’s most important smart cities events.

Jesse Chooi is an experienced professional in the ICT industry with a career spanning over 20 years. In his present role, he is responsible for developing the overall strategy and tactical execution for IoT Industry Development and Digital Transformation.

Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman is the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Industry – Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department. MIGHT is a Private-Public Partnership platform focused on harnessing technology for business. He was recently won the “Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution Towards Smart Cities” in the Smart Cities Awards in Mumbai.

Akira Sakano is the Chair of the Board of the Directors of the Zero Waste Academy Japan. She delivers services of planning and implementation of Zero Waste policies towards local governments and businesses. She successfully implemented Zero Waste in Kamikatsu , famous for its 34 categories of waste sorting done by every person living in the town and achieved almost 80% of its waste recycling.

He has worked with municipalities, architecture/urban planning firms and innovation clusters in Finland, Malaysia, Netherlands, UAE and UK on various projects related to energy, mobility, and smart citizens. His focus is on discovering specific local urban challenges that can be rapidly addressed with smart city projects, implementing them and creating clear communication channels to citizens, ensuring that they reap tangible benefits and that their quality of life is improved.

Ms. Karuna Gopal, is an Internationally acclaimed Thought Leader, Columnist, Keynote Speaker and Advisor on Smart Cities. She is the Founder President of Foundation for Futuristic Cities, a Think Tank that has influenced Urban Transformation in India for over a decade, she notably contributed to the design of the 100 SMART CITIES MISSION of Government of India.

Jungwoo Lee is the Director of Center for Work Science and Professor of Systems Management at Yonsei University, Korea. He was the Project Manager for U0City Integrated Platform and conducting research on Smart Government and Smart Cities. Currently, he is serving as a member of advising committee on Korean Government Digitalization. His research area covers mostly the macro and micro changes and impacts of information and communication technologies at all levels in public and private. His work has been published in various international journals. The four stage model for e-government published in Government Information Quaterly at 2001 sparked a series of e-government assessment scales worldwide. he holds a Ph.D in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University in 1998.

Dr Sugiyama’s current research focuses on neighbourhood environments that support older adults’ active lifestyles, therapeutic residential design that can enhance occupiers’ well-being (e.g., aged care facilities), and the health impact of active and sedentary transport. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in public health and environmental design journals and books, and is Chief Investigator in the Centre of Research Excellence in Healthy and Liveable Communities. After more than 10 years of research experience in diverse areas such as architecture, urban design, behavioural and spatial epidemiology, he joined Australian Catholic University to further work on interdisciplinary research involving the built environment, active living and health.

Since 2014, Marcus Jeutner is a research associate at TU Berlin, Institute of Urban and Regional planning. Currently, he is leading the IGSI network (Indo-German Smart Initiative), which provides innovative methods of applied fundamental research on urban issues and integrated urban development. The focus of this project is on the approach of “human-centred design”, which sets people, users and inhabitants of cities and infrastructures at the centre of urban planning processes.

Ivan Paez Mora is an IT Engineer, Entrepreneur & International Speaker with more than 10 years of experiences and has won numerous of international awards for his work. He is an expert in app development, UX/UI, gamification, business model, marketing, leadership and public speaking. He is the Co-Founder and CEO/CTO of Kappo Bike, a platform that helps cities to increase the urban bicycle usage worldwide through gamification and safety navigation for citizens, wellness & CSR for companies and giving cyclists insight and predictive analytics for governments, enabling better planning and higher return on urban infrastructure investments.

Datin Badriyah is the Deputy Secretary General (Energy and Green Technology), Ministry of Energy, Water and Green Technology. Previously in 2014, Datin Badriyah was appointed as the Director of Energy Section, Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Prime Minister’s Department, Putrajaya. Her works include formulating policies and strategies for the development of sustainable energy in the Outline Perspective Plan and Five Year Development Plan focusing on energy supply security, reliability, quality and cost-effective to meet the needs of the economy, especially the industrial sector, transportation, commercial and agricultural.

In 2013 Martin founded the company Pharem Biotech to establish new technology for removing pollutants from water environments with a significant focus on pharmaceuticals. Since the founding of the company, the technology has been awarded both nationally and internationally for its innovative approach to sewage treatment and pollution reduction in previously inaccessible application areas. Martin has himself been awarded for his entrepreneurial work and on the side of his work as CEO of the company often hold presentations within the field of innovative start-ups.

Saibal Das Chowdhury is an urban technologist and CEO and Co-Founder of Urbanetic – A developer of geospatial parametric modeling software to explore, visualize and analyze cities in 4D and enable ‘big data informed” dynamic master planning of cities from disparate sources of data in public and private domains.Prior to starting Urbanetic, Saibal has worked internationally in executive leadership positions with EMAG, HP, AT&T, and KFM – a Malaysian assets lifecycle management firm. Saibal has over thirty years of international experience in diverse fields of technology, ranging from industrial robotics, and computer integrated manufacturing to design technology, data mining and analytics.

Tobias is co-founder of JenaBatteries GmbH in 2013, where he manages research and development activities for the company’s award winning energy storage technology. Tobias’ current focus is to develop economically feasible materials for redox flow batteries (RFB) as well as intellectual property management. In recognition of Tobias’ contributions towards the field of organic energy storage, including thirty scientific papers in internationally acclaimed journal as well as several patents, he was awarded the IQ Innovation Award in the category chemistry and polymers (2015) and the Thuringian Research Prize for top performance in applied research (2017).

Aslam currently serves as Director of Department of Disaster Risk Management Systems in ADPC. He has over 20 years of experiences in the domain of disaster risk management, emergency preparedness planning, recovery planning, private sector resilience, training and capacity building, knowledge management, project management, resource mobilization and overall institutional development. He also has extensive experience of disaster risk management in South and Southeast Asia. Aslam has a strong interest in water resource and environmental management as well as climate change adaptation and its linkages with disaster risk reduction.

Rafiza Ghazali is the former Head of Group Innovation and Business Performance for Sime Darby Berhad. Rafiza led the social innovation project for Sime Darby Berhad, the inaugural Sime Darby Young Innovators Challenge 2016 that provided over 150 youths in Malaysia age between 13 to 16 years old with innovation skills. Sime Darby then incubated the winning idea and launched the Robin Food app on 15 December 2016. Four months after it being launched as at 10 April 2017, the initiative has saved nearly 17,000kg food worth approximately RM350,000 by distributing it to over 180 charities.

Anwar is an Urban Planner and currently served as Vice President of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) prior to his secondment in early 2017. He has wide experience dealing with the strategic, regional and local land-use planning in the context of sustainable development in Malaysia. He also has been involved in various studies such as Sustainable Future Cities Framework and several Planning Guidelines for local authorities. Presently, he is the subject matter expert for Spatial Management in implementation of the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDPii) 2014-2025 Iskandar Malaysia, namely Transit Oriented Development (TOD), Spatial Management Framework and provide strategic planning advisory to internal and external stakeholders in Iskandar Malaysia.

Ruben Tan is working on developing a blockchain-agnostic API service that offers unified access to bitcoin, dogecoin, litecoin and ethereum blockchains. Currently, working closely with some of the top level institutions and companies in Malaysia toeducate them on the technology, provide training and aid them in finding a use case for blockchain technology in their ecosystem.

Dr. Stephan Bartke, economist by training, is research fellow at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research and scientific project coordinator at the German Environment Agency. Since 2015, he has been coordinating the EU funded collaboration and support action INSPIRATION – Integrated Spatial Planning and Land Use and Soil Management Research Action, which involved more than 500 European experts from 20 countries to develop a strategic research agenda for soil and land management. Since 2017 he coordinates the DE-US.net, a bilateral network, which aims at bringing together German and US professionals from municipalities, business and academia to facilitate exchange on innovative approaches and research activities for sustainable urban development.

Abhilash is a software engineer who loves hackathons and was part of the winning team at Facebook Global Hackathon as second runner-up at Facebook HQ, Menlo Park in 2014. A couple years down the road, he decided to build Bus Uncle with his experience in Facebook platforms. After conducting research on public transport data available for developers, he built a highly localized bot for commuters in Singapore. Since its launch in late October 2016, it has garnered over 20,000 users, 1.5 million messages, and 270 5-star reviews out of 290.

A Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Reuben Ng trained as a behavioural scientist at Oxford and Yale. He spent 15 years in government, consulting, and research. In government, he was in the Prime Minister’s Office driving evidence-based policy making through data analytics, and Smart Nation strategies. Reuben is an expert in preventive healthcare of older adults, population health analytics, psychometrics, resilience and culture. He is credited with creating innovative techniques to measure societal perceptions/stereotypes that are applied to social policy, and program evaluation. He has over 50 journal/conference papers, taught extensively in Asia & US, and was nominated for teaching awards at Quinnipiac and Yale.

Dr Chen is the Commander of Environmental Inspection Division at Department of Environmental Protection, Taipei. He has extensive experiences as Division Resource Management Specialist, Incinerator Section Chief and Sub-division Chief for Division Environmental Maintenance of TDEP. Dr. Chen is also an adjunct assistance professor of environmental engineering in the Department of Living Science of the National Open University in Taiwan. His main research interests and expertise are in integrated environmental management, material flow analysis and life cycle assessment and resource recovery of waste.

Anupam Khajuria joined UNCRD since August 2014 as a 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) Researcher where she is handling the overall project to implement and promote 3R activities in Asia and the Pacific region through the annual high-level governmental forum. Her research is focused on the implementation of 3R and resource efficiency policies and strategies, promote and implement the sustainable and consumption pattern, circular economy approach. She published several research articles in the high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presented at the conference in the areas of environmental science, particularly in the field of waste management and groundwater management and engineering.

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Syed Muhammad Shahabudin has been in the water engineering field for more than 50 years most of which in private practice as a consulting engineer. He has been a board member of Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) since its formation in 2000 and has recently completed his 10-year term as a member of the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) since its formation in 2007. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia to pursue, encourage and enhance excellence in the field of science, engineering and technology. He is currently Chairman of Task Force on Water Demand Management (WDM). He strongly believes that a proper and effective implementation of WDM will go a long way towards meeting Water Security in the country and achieving a Developed Country Status.

Dr. Schwede is the Head of the GENIUS project (German Engineering Integrated for Urban Sustainability), which offers building owners, decision-makers in building and planning projects and representatives of public building administration support in effective project preparation and design quality for sustainable buildings. Since January 2013, Dr. Schwede is a Junior Professor for Sustainable Building at the University of Stuttgart and his research is focused on sustainable development in the Asian built environment through architectural and engineering measures and transferring European sustainable building approaches. He is also the managing director of the engineering consulting firm EGSplan International in Stuttgart endowed by the Robert Bosch Foundation.

In 2000, Professor Noh founded a research group which initiated Cheonggyecheon restoration movement. He played vital role in the restoration process and his group received 2004 Seoul Metropolitan Policy Grand Award for the contribution to Cheonggyecheon restoration project. His current research includes an appropriate technology for safe drinking water supply in developing countries to achieve UN SDGs6.1.

Vladimir Bataev is a Smart Cities & Innovation Funding Expert with Zaz Ventures. Dato’ Maimunah Mohd Sharif is the Mayor of the Penang City Council. Previously in 2011, she was appointed as the first female President of Municipal Council of Seberang Perai, Penang. Dr. Jong Sung Hwang is an ICT strategy expert who served in a number of key positions in the IT policy research and planning in distinguished organizations. Leon Foong is the CEO of SOCARMalaysia, a car-sharing platform that seeks to make driving more accessible to people living in Malaysians by using technology to make cars more shareable and in the process driving up utilisation of cars across the country.Prior to venturing into the car-sharing space, Leon Foong was the General Manager of Uber Malaysia and was responsible for introducing ride-sharing to Malaysia, bringing reliable on-demand peer to peer transportation to over more than 15 cities in Malaysia. Khoo Salma is a fifth generation Penang Peranakan and a writer, publisher and heritage advocate. Dr. Amila Zawawi is Associate Professor and Head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). She obtained her MSc and PhD from Malaysia in Building Engineering and Built Environment. With 16 years of academic experience, her focus is on research related to revolutionizing the decommissioning industry of offshore platforms in Malaysia and potentially the Asia Pacific region (in conjunction with the Malaysia Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC)) and is the lead researcher of the Decommissioning Initiatives division of the Offshore Engineering Centre, UTP (OECU). She also trains PETRONAS engineers on decommissioning and provides training to the industry via not-for- profit and non-government organisations such as the Malaysia Structural Steel Association (MSSA) and MOGSC to the local Oil & Gas Industry.

Ezumi began his career in a small practice in Penang in 1994 before joining Arkitek MAA Sdn. Bhd. in 1997. He led the implementation of several projects, mainly hospitals, hotels and office buildings. His unique exposure in various aspects of design and project implementation had been an added advantage in his day-to-day response to clients’ needs. He was promoted as associate in 2002 and appointed as Director in 2006. DATUK NIK AHMAD FAIZUL MALLEK is currently Vice President of the Special Projects of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). As the Program Director, he has led the implementation of several mission oriented national initiatives and projects namely the National Technology Foresight Projects, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategic Plan and Innovation SME CertifIcation Program (1-InnoCERT). He is currently leading the National Smart Communities Program with the objective to accelerate the greening of cities as engine for Industry Driven Economic Growth through Investment, Jobs and Innovation. This program focuses on industry driven, project based, partnership centric and facilitated by government. Datuk Nik has over 25 years of diversified, both industry and government experience in Policy, Strategic, Sectoral Development and Mission Driven High Impact Projects related to Infrastructure, Buildings, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Biologist by profession, environmentalist by passion, Yasmin has 20 years of experience and knowledge in environmental management, community development, and social responsibility in Malaysia. She is also involved in community mobilisation and research-based programs on issues related to sustainability. Yasmin founded EcoKnights in 2005 with the aim of assisting communities in the areas of sustainable development. She has a B.Sc. in Biology (Marine) and a minor in Contemporary Religion from Duke University, also a M.Sc. in Biotechnology from University Malaya. She served as the chairperson of a national coalition, MENGO, for four years from 2012-2017. She was also the head of research and development for Profound Vaccine Sdn Bhd, spearheading research and product development for animal vaccines. Yasmin has also been serving as the Chairperson of the Malaysian Duke Alumni Association since 1998.

Dr. Solahuddin has been working as a cyber security professional for more than 16 years. He joined CyberSecurity Malaysia in 2002 and has been working in a wide variety of cybersecurity areas. With his knowledge, experience and skills in various cyber security domains he is now entrusted to be CyberSecurity Malaysia’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In 2002 he joined CyberSecurity Malaysia as the Expert Service Manager. Later on, he was entrusted to be the manager for Malaysia Emergency Response Team (MyCERT). He has earned 5 professional certifications namely C|CISO, CWNA, CISSP, CEH and ISMS Lead Auditor.

Mr. Kang is an Economic Affairs Officer with the Sustainable Urban Development Section, Environment and Development Division at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok, where he has served for more than 14 years. His work portfolio covers sustainable urban development, low carbon green cities, urban infrastructure, energy security, energy efficiency and renewable energy as they relate to sustainable development issues. He has also served with the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) dealing with numerous topics including energy, environment, natural resources, rural development and programme management. Some of the notable publications that he has coordinated and contributed to are The State of Asian and Pacific Cities 2015, Assessment Report on Energy Efficiency Institutional Arrangements in Asia (2010), and Energy Security and Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific (2008). He is trained in international political economy, developmental studies, environment and urban management, and obtained his degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Chicago. He is currently a doctorate candidate of environment, development and sustainability at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

Nicholas Car is an experimental computer scientist at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, working in the areas of Semantic Web and information modelling. He leads the technical components of a number of large-scale government data integration projects such as the Location Integration Capability, Loc-l, and the Longitudinal Spine of Government Functions. These projects aim to reduce the effort required to analyse public sector information and thus improve its utility. He is co-chair of the Australia Government Linked Data Working Group which assists government with data exchange.

Marjolein Brasz, with a business degree from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, started working in the energy business in 2001, initially in the traditional oil & gas industry and later with new insights gained along the way, in the field of sustainable energy. In 2006, she moved to the Amsterdam Economic Board, an independent institute focussing on the future of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, as Lead on the Circular Economy Transition Programme. Transitioning into a new circular economy requires strong cooperation between governments, knowledge institutes and business; new coalition should be formed, new business (models) developed and room for experimentation and failure allowed. The Amsterdam Economic Board works with active governments, business and knowledge institutes to facilitate this transition.

Director of the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), where he also heads the Smart Cities Lab and the Future Digital Economics and Digital Societies initiative. David is currently an entrepreneur, board member and strategic advisor related to Mobility Innovation and Smart Cities working with multiple startups, VC / PE investment clients and government agencies worldwide related to mobility-as-a-service (MaaS), on-demand transportation (ODT), microtransit, connected & autonomous vehicles (CAV), electric vehicles (EV) and smart parking in the context of big data, analytics, cloud, and the internet of things (IoT).

With over ten years of management experience, he plays a fundamental role in driving digital transformation for key clients in various industry verticals such as aviation, government, enterprise and the financial sector. Tan has a deep passion for the Cloud Computing, big data and AI, and is enthusiastic about using the technology to empower governments and business for greater productivity and operational efficiencies. Previously working in IBM, Tan is a veteran of the technology industry with a proven track record in driving business success for both enterprise and start-ups. His recent projects include developing ecosystems, enhancing cloud security and solutions for business and bringing innovative big data and machine learning technologies to ASEAN. Tan graduated from Deakin University with a degree in Computer Science / Information Technology. Mathias is Executive Vice President and Regional Manager – Digital Consulting and Smart Cities, Asia at DNV GL – Digital Solutions. He and his team are driving DNV GL’s services towards Cyber Security, Smart Cities & Ports, Digital Development and DNV GL’s Digital Platform Business Veracity in Asia – from DNV GL’s Digital Hub in Singapore. Before Mathias assumed this role he was the Executive Vice President and Regional Manager Asia Pacific, Energy & Renewables Advisory, at DNV GL Energy, delivering advisory services to the energy value chain including renewables and energy efficiency. Mathias’ special interest is the impact of digitalization on cities and the energy ecosystem. He has taken courses at Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley and attended Leadership Programs at Ashridge Business School and INSEAD.

Mr Havas joined the Australian Trade & Investment Commission (Austrade) in May 2012 and is currently Australia’s Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner to Malaysia and Brunei based in the Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur. Mr Havas oversees the Government’s work in facilitating commercial links across trade, investment and education in both markets. Previous to his current role, Mr Havas was Australia’s Trade Commissioner to Peru and Ecuador with responsibility for Bolivia. At that time, he also managed Austrade’s mining & resources teams across Latin America to oversee the development of regional strategies to promote the growth of Australian industry in the region. Mr Havas has a strong background in international business strategy, investment attraction, international relations, cross border business development and project management and works closely with key partner agencies on the Australian Government’s Economic Diplomacy strategy. Prior to joining Austrade, Mr Havas was the Director of Foreign Investment & Strategic Partnerships for one of Australia’s largest regional governments. Mr Havas has spent time working in multiple overseas markets including the UK, South Africa, Spain, USA and Latin America in particular. Aside from Mr Havas’s business background, he also has significant experience in The Arts and was a Non-Executive Director of The Queensland Ballet prior to taking up his role in Latin America.

I have broad global experience within sustainability in business and the public sector working within this area for over 20 years. I currently am heading up and driving the Sustainability agenda in the ROCKWOOL Group, a company where sustainability is an integral part of the business, not least within the areas of energy efficiency/climate change, circular business, health, safety and welfare, and water management. I hold a BA(Hons) in Urban Planning from University of West of England and a MSc in Environmental Planning from Roskilde University. I am an External Lecturer at Copenhagen Business School and External examiner at Roskilde University. I have had various positions in Coloplast, COWI, where I was House consultant for Intel EMEA and Biogen Idec for a number of years and now Rockwool International.

Andrew Mui was Chief Executive Officer of Hitachi Critical Facilities Protection Pte Ltd from 2011 to 2015, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd that focuses on Risk Mitigation Measures for its many clients. Mr Mui was trained in the United States in the specialized field of Lightning Protection Engineering and has since been involved in numerous risk mitigation projects for over 19 years, covering multi-billion dollars’ worth of assets in Asia. He is a well-known lecturer in his subject matter expertise and had also served as a member of the Technical Committee in the Asian Institute of Intelligent Buildings Singapore. From 2015 to 2017, he was assigned to Hitachi Headquarters in Tokyo as General Manager of Management Planning Office-Strategy Planning Division. Currently, he holds the position of Chief Commercial Officer, responsible for commercializing Hitachi’s Social Innovation Business in Asia Pacific. Mr Mui is also actively involved in Hitachi’s strategy development for Smart City Digital EcoSystem.

Mark is an entrepreneur and smart cities expert. He founded the international consulting and smart services enterprise Serviceworks Group in 2005.Mark was part of Australasia’s largest local authority the Auckland Council in New Zealand for six years. In the annual Economist and Mercer rankings, Auckland is regularly one of the top ten most liveable cities on Earth. He is a member of the USA based Smart Cities Council and of the global Smart Cities and Urban Innovation Group. He is on the board of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and is a member of the ASEAN New Zealand Business Council. He is a regular speaker and international correspondent on smart city issues.

BK Sinha has over 35 years experience in the development and management of Environmentally Compliant Projects and Services, in particular Waste to Renewable Energy Projects. The combination of his experience and wealth of knowledge is fueled by his deep-rooted passion for the emergence of truly sustainable developments in this region. BK Sinha is currently Board member of Malaysia Green Building Council (malaysiaGBC); an established member of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) which has members in 73 countries globally. The WorldGBC operates through 5 regions, namely Europe, Americas, Africa, Middle East & North Africa and the Asia Pacific Network (APN). BK Sinha has recently completed his appointment as the Regional Vice Chair of the APN. The term is for a two year tenure. He holds a tenacious belief in a holistic approach with all stakeholder inclusivity that he applies to all his projects. BK Sinha is respected as a thought leader and mentor in many notable sustainable projects in Malaysia, Maldives, Cambodia and Vietnam. He is passionate about the environment and endeavors to create sustainable communities. As Project Managers in the construction industry and taking into account that the built environment accounts for 40 percent of all waste worldwide, he holds personal the task and responsibility to contribute towards making sustainable buildings and infrastructure in Malaysia the norm rather than the exception.

Vladimir Bataev is an independent expert in smart & circular deep tech urban solutions — applications of novel technology in urban environments. He focuses on tight integration of transport, energy & urban infrastructure with the help of ICT. Dato’ TPr. Mohd Anuar began his career by joining the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning, as Town and Country Planner Officer. In February 2006, he has promoted as a Head Assistant Secretary at Federal Territory Ministry and in the same year in April, he was promoted as a Project Manager for Development Plan Studies. He was then promoted as Director of Town and Country Planning Department for states of Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Penang in July 2007. He was also appointed as National Representative of Malaysia for ASEAN Smart City Network (May 2018- January 2019). Now he is currently assigned as Deputy of Director General Planning at PLANMalaysia (Town and Country Planning Department Headquarters) since March 2018.

YB Jagdeep Singh Deo started his journey as politician in 2008 when he was elected as The State Assemblyman for Datok Keramat. He then was elected as The Member of State Assemblyman for Datok Keramat and appointed as State Executive Councillor for housing and town & country planning in 2013. He has more than 20 years of experience carrying out more than 270 positional assessments, business process reviews, feasibility studies, proposal evaluations, strategy exercises, due diligence exercises, turnarounds, valuations, business plans, master plans, special administrators, receiverships, court and voluntary liquidations, corporate restructuring, debt restructuring, investigations and various consultancy assignments on corporate entitles for Governments, management, shareholders, lenders and prospective investors. Prior to founding 27Group of companies, he was the Business Development Director of Arcadis, an international consulting firm in the space of built asset & engineering. Before that, he was with Ernst & Young audit, restructuring, corporate finance teams and then head hunted by PricewaterhouseCoopers in their corporate finance and management consulting departments and in short stint as head of Finance for a global enterprise which was involved in commercialization of ground-breaking technologies. He was again headhunted in 2004 to head the consulting for RSM International’s Malaysia business and has grown the business from zero to one of the leading strategic consulting outfits in Malaysia to date.

She has held key roles in milestone national broadband and smart city infrastructure projects in markets across Asia Pacific and co-authored Smart City themed contents. Balancing the technical and business levers is one of the challenges she thrives on in the digital era. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering and other professional qualifications in her field.

Juan Intan Kanggrawan is the current Head of Data & Analytics at Jakarta Smart City. His key role is to fully utilize data to formulate public policy and to improve quality of public services. His main and foremost success metric is Jakarta citizen’s satisfaction towards government. Juan is currently working on several city-scale strategic analytics initiatives. He is actively analysing complex, diverse and exciting urban data in daily basis: citizen complain/aspiration, transportation data from various sources, CCTV, global-regional-national Open Data, weather-flood-river bank, subsidy utilization for education & elderly, food commodities price elasticity, etc. He is also developing and aligning strategic partnership framework between Jakarta Smart City with other government agencies, business enterprises, research agencies and universities.

Fuad Shazly Salleh is a Vice President of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), a federal government agency entrusted to facilitate the development of the economic region in the southern peninsular of Malaysia or better known as “Iskandar Malaysia”, into a sustainable metropolis of international standing. Fuad oversees several technology enablement and innovation adoption projects which include the Iskandar Malaysia Urban Observatory – a Central Data Center to collate, update, analyze, manage and disseminate data and information in Iskandar Malaysia as a key enabler to become a Smart City.

Ts Zulkifflee has more than 28 years working experiences in the field of manufacturing in the Automotive & Electronics industries and transportation. He is a certified Technologist which is certified by Malaysian Board of Technologist. He has been with MIGHT for 12 years and involved in Strategic Industry and Technology development in the Automotive, Rail, and Maritime Industry specifically for Shipbuilding & Ship Repair industries and latest on the sustainable and smart cities initiatives. His role was mainly involved in advising the Government on the Strategic development planning Framework and provide the government with the Blueprint as a reference document for policy and future planning in these areas. He led the formation of Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI) which is known as MARII now. His work involved the rail transport and part of the team in formulating the strategic plan of future rail 2030 roadmap. The strategic plan involved industry & technology in rail sector. Currently, he is involved in the sustainable cities program with United Nation International Development Organization.

Justin Goh is the Co-founder and Business Director of WISE AI, an AI platform company that specialises in Facial Recognition technology, eKYC and smart city solutions. Focusing on the ASEAN region, Justin is responsible for developing and implementing growth opportunities and strategic partnerships with clients, partners and industries. Working across industries and platforms with the big corporates he has attained more than 15 years of experience in technology, software and business development fields.

Dr. Liu is working as a principal engineer and team lead in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI). He has been leading several innovation projects (budgets over 7 million HK$) in artificial intelligence area. Some of the projects have been successfully transformed into commercial use. Projects led by him won three gold medal awards and one silver award on 46th and 47th Geneva Invention Exhibition in 2018 and 2019. In addition, he is a key contributor for the team to win Merit Award of WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards 2018, Merit Award of Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Award 2017 and Bronze Award of Hong Kong ICT Award 2017. Before joining ASTRI, he worked in ZTE Corporation as a 3G/4G standard team lead. He has published nearly 40 papers and patents till now.

Karuna Gopal is an Internationally acclaimed Thought Leader, Keynote Speaker and Advisor on Smart Cities. She is the Founder President of Foundation for Futuristic Cities, a think tank that has influenced Urban Transformation in India for over a decade. In 2018, Ms Gopal was invited by the Prime Minister of UAE to address their flagship event – World Government Summit at Dubai. Ms Gopal contributed to the design of the ‘100 Smart Cities Mission’ of India and has been invited to speak at the launch of the Mission by the Prime Minister. Her innovation SCULPT YOUR CITY- 2009 (a crowd sourced protocol) has shaped the Mission guidelines and has been declared a National Best Practice. She chaired a conference on Smart Grids with Parliamentarians from UK and India in 2016 at London.

A competent engineer and urban administrator with nearly 25+ years of experience in Urban Management, Infrastructure Planning & Implementation, Budgeting for Zones under Municipal Corporation, Management of Water and Sanitation and 5+ years of experience as visiting faculty at Vanamati Nagpur and multiple Engineering colleges in Nagpur. He is currently, working as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (SPV created for implementation of Smart City Project of Nagpur City).

Cha has been in finance for 20+ years (Citibank in New York, Sydney and Honolulu, Yasuda Trust Bank in Tokyo, Asian Merchant Bank and CEO of Lone Star Real Estate Funds in Seoul). Since 2008, for 10+ years, Cha has focused his career on green buildings, proptech (including contech) and smart, sustainable cities. He co-founded Re-Imagining Cities to help global cities spur economic growth and, at the same time, help tackle the ever-increasing challenges of rapid urbanization and Climate Change.

Dr. Umamaheshwaran is the Chair, Urban Resilience at National Institute of Urban Affairs. He has over 15 years of experience in developing risk reduction strategies, climate change analysis, hazard modeling, institutional analysis, adaptation & mitigation plans for governments, INGOs, bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies. He has been the team leader and project manager for pioneering urban risk resilience efforts in India including implementation of end to end early warning systems for urban floods, establishment of urban health and climate resilience center, development of urban disease surveillance system, mainstreaming of urban service monitoring systems, conduct of urban risk analysis and preparation of city resilience strategies. His recent work on development and implementation of Urban Services Monitoring System has been recognized as an intervention to watch, by the U.N Secretary General’s global pulse initiative.

Manojit Bose, as the Chief Knowledge Officer of Pune Smart City, is responsible for driving all the ICT led initiatives being undertaken by the Pune Smart City (including the Integrated Command and Control Centre, driving cross functional use cases, external application integration, ATMS, Smart Parking, etc.) and Pune Idea Factory Foundation (PIFF)- a subsidiary of Pune Smart City SPV, focusing on technology and data led innovation & entrepreneurship. He has a deep understanding of the technology landscape in a city, the technology eco system and its important participants, and has been instrumental in initiating various emerging technology led initiatives in Pune as well as putting together an ecosystem of partners comprising of the industry, academia and research institutes.

Nor Sallehi Kassim is a town planner at PLANMalaysia (Federal Town and Country Planning Department). He has served the department in various planning units namely, the Orang Asli Resettlement Programmes and Traditional Villages Projects, Structure and Local Plans. He was trained in Town Planning at Cardiff University in Wales, UK, and has been involved in the development of computerization and information system for the department. Upon his interest, he has written and presented several papers. He is currently involved in the development of the Smart City Framework by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government where he is the Project Manager. Besides that, he is also actively involved in the ASEAN Smart City Network (ASCN) in establishing the implementation structure and term of reference on monitoring Smart City initiatives among ASEAN countries.

Dato’ TPr. Mohd Anuar began his career by joining the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning, as Town and Country Planner Officer. In February 2006, he has promoted as a Head Assistant Secretary at Federal Territory Ministry and in the same year in April, he was promoted as a Project Manager for Development Plan Studies. He was then promoted as Director of Town and Country Planning Department for states of Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Penang in July 2007. He was also appointed as National Representative of Malaysia for ASEAN Smart City Network (May 2018- January 2019). Now he is currently assigned as Deputy of Director General Planning at PLANMalaysia (Town and Country Planning Department Headquarters) since March 2018.

Dr Avik Sarkar has recently taken up the role of Professor in Data, AI and Public Policy at Indian School of Business. Dr Sarkar was most recently heading the Data Analytics Cell at NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog, a premier policy think-tank of the Government of India. AT NITI Aayog, Dr Sarkar provided analytical insights for policy making across sectors like Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Direct Benefit Transfer, Innovation, Digital payments, Healthcare/Nutrition, Agriculture, etc. He was also engaged with the Energy Vertical at NITI Aayog instrumental in setting up the Energy Modelling Unit for the purpose of long-term planning of future energy needs of India through initiatives like integrated energy modelling, energy data management, etc.

Abhishek is the CTO with CSC e-Governance Services India, a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt of India. He runs the technology behind CSC which drives the world’s largest front end service delivery points to deliver government & business services across the nation reaching the remotest of the country on a digital format. CSC’s Digital platform supports multi domain products & services ranging from government, business, aadhaar, insurance, travel, education, utilities, bill payments, fintech apps for banking services delivery. Prior to CSC he worked with the UIDAI, where he was engaged as member of the technology team that built Aadhaar, he was involved in building the Aadhaar Biometric Attendance system as well as Jeevan Pramaan the digital life certificate facilitating pension disbursements in addition to other exciting and challenging projects in Aadhaar which were widely adopted across the nation.

Praveen Lala has eighteen years of experience in various industries and global locations in GE, delivering growth as a strong people leader in the VUCA environment. Having a broad digital, operational and ‘Change Agent’ experience, Praveen is a firm believer in digital transformation and focused on customer outcomes. In addition, he understands the cultural complexity and rules of business in the APAC region. His current role is to drive digital transformation and leverage IoT/Big Data in the Energy space. Working across various functions, he understands criticality of People, Process and Technology to drive digital changes.

Nicholas Car is a Data Systems Architect specialising in semantic data systems and Internet data protocols. He was working for the Australian government agencies building semantic data + AI systems and bringing interoperability to distributed data. A long-time experimental computer scientist at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, he led the technical components of a number of large-scale government data integration projects such as the Location Integration Capability, Loc-I, and the Longitudinal Spine of Government Functions. These projects aim to reduce the effort required to analyse public sector information and thus improve its utility. Nicholas is a member of the World Wide Web Consortium’s Dataset Exchange Working Group.

Mark is an entrepreneur and smart cities expert. He founded the international consulting and smart services enterprise Serviceworks Group in 2005. Mark was part of Australasia’s largest local authority the Auckland Council in New Zealand for six years. In the annual Economist and Mercer rankings, Auckland is regularly one of the top ten most liveable cities on Earth. He is a member of the USA based Smart Cities Council and of the global Smart Cities and Urban Innovation Group. He is on the board of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and is a member of the ASEAN New Zealand Business Council.
